Short on time or energy but want to make your own baby food? This easy banana pear puree made in the Instant Pot is a great solution.

It’s simple to prepare, budget-friendly, and naturally sweet—perfect for introducing fruit flavors to your little one.

Instant Pot Banana Pear Baby Food Recipe

We began introducing solids recently, starting with mild vegetables and then moving on to fruit purees. This banana and pear combination is especially popular because it’s smooth, naturally sweet, and gentle on tiny tummies.

Using the Instant Pot makes the process straightforward. In under 30 minutes you can cook and puree enough to last several feedings. After cooking, portion the puree into small containers or freeze in an ice cube tray for convenient single-serve portions.

I prefer small containers with lids to help prevent freezer burn, but ice cube trays work well if you want perfectly sized portions for thawing one serving at a time.

No matter how you store it, this banana pear baby food is quick, mild, and reassuringly homemade.

Ingredients

  • 2 pears, cored and chopped
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup breastmilk (optional, for thinning and extra nutrients)
  • 1/4 tsp fresh ginger (optional, use sparingly)

Instructions

  1. Core and chop the pears into uniform pieces for even cooking.
  2. Pour 1/2 cup water into the Instant Pot and set a steamer basket inside the inner pot.
  3. Place the chopped pears in the steamer basket.
  4. Close the lid, lock it, and set the valve to sealing. Cook on Manual/High pressure for 5 minutes. When finished, perform a quick pressure release.
  5. Transfer the steamed pears to a bowl and add the banana and ginger if using.
  6. Use an immersion blender or regular blender to puree until smooth. Add breastmilk or a little of the reserved cooking water to reach the desired consistency.
  7. Store in an airtight container and refrigerate or freeze extras immediately.

Notes

This recipe scales well—double or triple the ingredients to make larger batches for freezing. When increasing quantities, be cautious with ginger: its flavor intensifies quickly, so add a little at a time.

Thaw frozen portions in the refrigerator or warm gently before serving. Stir well and check temperature before feeding your baby.
