Five Small Habits That Improve Your Day

Farmer's Market Bounty - Shades of Sunset | www.kitchenconfidante.com

Here are five little things I loved this week — small moments and discoveries that brightened my days.

Shades of Sunset

My trip to the farmer’s market last Saturday left me breathless. The produce was an array of sunset tones: deep reds, warm oranges, and soft golden yellows. The cherries, in particular, were perfect — sweet, juicy, and impossible not to smile at. I shared a new recipe this week inspired by that bounty: Cherry Nutella Scones. If you enjoy baking or simply like a special weekend treat, they’re definitely worth trying.

Yellow

Yellow has always felt like a gentle, steady presence in my life. It was my mother’s favorite color, and now it’s meaningful in even more ways because my daughter wrote a little poem that captures its warmth and spirit.

Yellow

by Caeli Baker
The color that wakes you up when the sun hits your wall
The color that tells the rooster when to call
Yellow is a fish, shining in the light
You wish yellow were there on a cold winter night.

Yellow is the flame in your torch when you crawl through a cave,
pushing you on to being brave.

Yellow is the jingle of coins in a merchant’s pocket,
Yellow is the color of your grandmother’s locket.
Yellow is never goodbye, not even a simple sigh;
Yellow is contentment of a happy poem,
Yellow is a soldier coming home.

Reading her words reminded me how color can be memory, emotion, and story all at once.

Open House

One of the highlights of the school year is open house. I love watching the kids proudly lead us through their projects and displays, explaining what they learned and showing how much effort they put into their work. This year felt especially rewarding — my children were so enthusiastic and confident, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.

10 Years of Silence: Lessons on Success

I recently read a thoughtful piece about success, deliberate practice, and the surprising connections between greats like Mozart, Picasso, and Kobe Bryant. The article explores how long stretches of focused work, persistence, and dedication shape exceptional achievement. It’s a reminder that mastery often grows slowly, through many small daily choices rather than overnight breakthroughs.

Amazing Dance Routines

It’s the season for recitals and year-end performances, and I’ve been delighted by the creativity and skill on display. My daughter just finished her recital, and her class did a beautiful job — so much precision, joy, and teamwork. Since then I’ve enjoyed watching a number of stand-out dance videos; some routines are stunningly choreographed and showcase incredible talent. Watching these performances is a lovely way to celebrate practice, artistry, and the thrill of sharing something you love with an audience.

Wishing you a restful and joyful weekend. Take time to notice the small things that bring light into your days.
